Today, Kyiv (also spelled Kiev), in a north/south direction stretches 42 kilometers (26 miles), and is 35 kilometers (22 miles) from east to west. Kiev is next to the beautiful Dnipro river banks. Total area of Kiev is 820 square kilometers, and of that 367 square kilometers is forests and parks. There are many lakes, and also the waters of the Dnipro, which total about 40 sq. km. within the city.

Kiev has 14 administrative districts. It is the administrative and polical center of the Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada is in Kiev.

The population is about 3 million.
